Be sure to adjust hook size accordingly. It may also be necessary to decrease the number of triple crochets on the posts (i.e. from 10 to when using heavier yarn.

Materials:
Luster Sheen or Sport Weight Yarn
Size F or 5 or 3.75mm crochet hook
Elastic-covered ponytail holder

Stitch Guidelines:
Triple Crochet (trc): YO, insert hook into stitch as indicated, YO, pull up a loop, (YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) 3 times.
Triple Crochet Post (trc post): Referring to the height or length of the triple crochet stitch which will actually be crocheted onto.

Directions:
Round 1: Sl st onto band, ch 5 (this counts as first trc and ch 1 space). (Trc, ch 1) around until band is well covered. [Note: You can crochet as many Trc + ch 1 as will fit, but you must end with an even number, otherwise the pattern will not work as intended.] End with sl st in 4th chain of beg ch 5 to join.

Round 2: Sl st around same trc post as joining trc at the end of rnd 1. (Ch 1, sl st) twice down same trc post. Ch 4 (counts as first trc). Turn, trc around same trc post 9 times moving toward the outer edge of the scrunchie. Do not turn, flip work over to the opposite side, work 10 trc in trc post next to post just worked on previous side, turn. Skip next unworked trc post and in next unworked trc post work 10 trc across, (do not turn, flip work over to opposite side and work 10 trc across the unworked post between the two previously worked posts **, turn, skip next unworked post and in next unworked post work 10 trc) around entire scrunchie. Fasten off.

Finishing: Tie together beginning and ending waste yarns securing with a knot. Weave in ends and trim close to work.
