Soap-on-a-Rope Free Kitchen and Bath Pattern

Materials:
1/2 skein sugar and cream ww cotton yarn
Size F crochet hook
Gauge: 4 sc = 1″; 2 dc rows = 1″
Designer’s Note: This will be a tight fit but since the soap will get smaller as it is used, I didn’t want to make it to fit loosely. This fits a 4.5 oz. Ivory bath bar.
Directions:
Chain 9. 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc across to last ch. 3 sc in last ch. Working on opposite side of foundation, sc in each ch. Join to first sc. (18 sc)
Rnd. 1: Ch 4(counts as 1st dc and ch 1). *Skip next sc. Dc, ch 1 in next sc. Repeat from * 3 times. (Dc, ch 1 in next st)twice. *Skip next sc. Dc, ch 1 in next sc. Repeat from * around to end. Join in 3rd ch of beginning dc. (11 dc plus 11 ch 1 spaces)
Rnd 2: Ch 4, Dc, ch 1 in next Dc. Repeat around and join.
Rnd 3-7: Repeat Rnd 2.
Rnd 8: Sc in each Dc and ch around and join.
Rnd 9: Ch 3, Dc in each sc around; join.
Edging: sc in first dc. *ch 3, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around. join and fasten off. (You can also do a shell stitch edging or for a man, I often either just sc or reverse sc.).
Drawstring: Ch 85; fasten off. Weave ends back through 4 or 5 chs. Tie each end in a knot. Cut off end of yarn that you weaved through the ch. Weave ch through dc on Rnd 9. Place soap in bag. Tie chain and pull up tight(do not make a knot. You want to be able to loosen the chain to replace the soap). Tie the very ends in a knot to make hanging loop.
