Orange, gold, green belt, in light-weight knitting worsted, is about 2″ wide for slipping through belt loops of jeans; length is adjustable.

SIZE:  Adjustable.

MATERIALS:  For hip belt:  Light-weight knitting worsted, 4-ply sport yarn, or wool and Shetland wool, 1 oz. each of orange (A), gold (B) and green (C).  Steel crochet hook size 0. (Or English aluminum size 10.)

For waist belt:  Unpolished jute, such as Lily Mills Jute-Tone, (1) 4-oz. spool each of rose (A), pink (B) and red (C).  Aluminum crochet hook size I  (Or English size 5.)

GAUGE:  Each small square = 1-3/4″; each large square = 3-1/2″.

Notes:  Directions are the same for both belts.  Hook size and yarn determine size of square.  Squares are worked tightly to minimize stretching.  When changing colors, work over all short  ends of yarn to hide them.  Work over short ends when crocheting edging.

SQUARE:  With A, ch 3, join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1:  Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), make 2 dc in ring, ch 3, * 3 dc in ring, ch 3, repeat from * twice, join with sl st to top of ch 3. End off A.
Rnd 2:  Join B in a ch-3 sp, ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), 2 hdc in same sp, hdc in 2nd dc of 3-dc cluster, * (3 hdc, ch 1, 3 hdc) in comer ch-3 sp, hdc in 2nd dc of 3-dc cluster, repeat from * twice, 3 hdc, ch 1 in same sp as first 3 hdc, join with sl st to top of ch 2.  End off B.
Rnd 3:  Join C in a ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp as joining, * sc in each of 7 hdc, work sc, ch 1, sc in ch-1 sp at corner, repeat from * 3 times, end last repeat sc in same sp as joining.  Join with sl st to ch 1. End off C.

Work 2nd motif in same way, do not end off C.  Holding squares with wrong sides facing, sl st squares together through back loops. Continue in this way, joining as many motifs as necessary for belt length desired.

Edging: For hip belt:  Attach C in 2nd sc on long edge.  Work 1 sc in each sc and 1 hdc in st at joinings if necessary to keep edging even.  At first corner, * make a ch 11″ long, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (insert hook in top 2 threads of ch) *, (sc in each of 5 sc on square, work from * to *) twice, sc across other long edge as before, work 3 ties as before, join with sl st to first sc on edging.

For waist belt:   Attach C in 2nd sc on long edge.  Work same as for other belt to first corner, ch 2; on short edge, work 1 sc in each of 2 sc, ch 2, skip 1 sc, work 1 sc in each of 3 sc, ch 2, skip 1 sc, work 1 sc in each of 2 sc, ch 2, work sc across long edge as before, work 4 loops on short edge as before.  Join with sl st to first sc on edging.

Lacing:  Using 1 strand of each color, make a twisted cord desired length. (see below).  Lace through front as shown.
