Free Sunflower Square Afghan Pattern
MATERIALS:
Size G hook makes a 6″ square using ww yarn
MC: Black (or color of your choice)
CC: Yellow (or color of your choice)
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Mid-Anchor Stitch (MAS): YO, insert hook into next dc and into back of second tr on petal, YO, pull through 3 loops (2 loops on hook), YO, pull through 2 loops. MAS made
Top-Anchor Stitch (TAS): YO, insert hook into next dc and into top stitch in back of petal, YO, pull though 3 loops (2 loops on hook), YO, pull through 2 loops. TAS made.
**NOTE: For counting purposes, MAS ans TAS sts are counted as dc’s.
DIRECTIONS:
Center:
Rnd 1: With MC, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring. St st in ring, ch 1, work 11 sc in ring, join with sl st to first sc. (12 sc made)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same sp (1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) 3 times, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. Finish off. (16 dc)
Petals:
Rnd 3: Right side facing, attach CC with sl st in front loop of chain 3 from previous round. *Chain 7 loosely In the back loops only, sl st in second chain from hook, dc in next chain, tr in each of next 2 chains, dc in next chain, hdc in last chain, sl st in front loop of next dc from previous round* Repeat from * to * fifteen times. Last petal should now be joined in same st as first petal. Finish off. (16 petals)
Square: (all work in this round is done on wrong side with back of petals facing you.
Rnd 4: With MC (sl st, ch 3, dc), in any remaning back loop of center circle. [dc in next 3 sts, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st] 3 times. DC in each of next 3 sts, (2 dc, ch 1) in next st, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (28 dc)
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same st, *[dc in next st, (work MAS in next 2 sts, dc in next st) 2 times* (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner sp] 3 times. Work * to * once. (2 dc, ch 1) in next st, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (44dc made)
Rnd 6: Ch 3, turn so front of petals are facing you. (Dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ch 1 sp, dc in each st around working (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in each corner sp, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (60 dc)
