CLUSTER AFGHAN PATTERN
From cool spring nights to the lazy gays of summer, this handsome cotton afghan fill the bill. It’s perfect as awarm-weather bed cover or a casual front-porch throw. The simple puff stitch and double-crocheted border create an open , airy pattern that complement any setting. When worked in a versalite neutral , texture becomes star of the slow , but you coult just as easily of bright primaries or soft pastels.
SIZE: approximately 44 in. x 62 in. including border
MATERIALS:
* Lily Sugar ‘n Cream ( 2 1/2-oz. ball): 16 ball No. 092 khaki
* Size I crochet hook or size to reach gauge given below
STITCHES USED
Chain, single crochet ,double crochet, plus the following variation:
Puff Stitch: In next st ( yo,draw up lp in same st) 4 times ,yo and draw through all lps on hook ,ch 1.
GAUGE:
10 sc= 3 in.
DIRECTIONS
* Ch 136.
* Row 1 ( wrong side): Work sc in 2nd ch from hok ; sc in each rem ch-135 sts. Ch 3 ,turn
*Row 2 (right side) : Sk first st , work dc in each rem st across. Ch 1 , turn.
* Row 3 : Sc in first st of row , * sc in next st, ch 3, st 2 sts, puff st in next st, ch 3 , sk 2 sts, rep from * across, end sc in last dc and top of turning ch ; ch 5 , turn
*Row 4 : * Work 3 sc in top of puff st, ch 3; rep from * across ; end with ch 2, dc in top of last st, ch 1, turn.
* Row 5: Sc in firdy dc, sc in each sh and sc across row, end sc in first 3 chs of turning ch-5 —135 sc; ch 3; turn.
*Rep Rows 2-5 until piece ,s approximately 60 in. Long ending with Row 5. Do not fasten off. Ch 3, turn.
BORDER:
*Row 1 : Work 1 roe dc araund entire afghan, working 3 dc at each corner; join with sl st to top of beg ch 3; ch3 , turn.
* Rep Row 1 twice more. Fasten off.
